Orden de respetar la pascua. Vv. 1-20. El Señor hace nuevas todas las cosas para aquellos que libera de la esclavitud de Satanás y los toma para sí mismo a fin de que sean su pueblo. El momento en que Él hace esto, para ellos es el comienzo de una vida nueva.
Dios señaló que, la noche en que iban a salir de Egipto, cada familia matara un cordero o que dos o tres familias, si eran pequeñas, debían matar un cordero en conjunto. Este cordero tenía que comerse en la manera aquí indicada y la sangre debía rociarse en el dintel y en los postes para señalar las casas de los Israelitas, y distinguirlas de las de los egipcios. El ángel del Señor, cuando destruyera a los primogénitos egipcios,
pasaría por alto ) las casas marcadas con la sangre del cordero: de aquí el nombre de esta fiesta u ordenanza sagrada.

La Pascua debería celebrarse cada año, tanto como recordatorio de la preservación de Israel y su liberación de Egipto, y como un notable tipo de Cristo. La seguridad y liberación de los israelitas no fue una recompensa de su justicia propia sino una dádiva misericordiosa. A ellos les recordaba esto y, por medio de esta ordenanza, se les enseñó que todas las bendiciones les llegaron por medio del derramamiento y el rociamiento de sangre.

El cordero pascual era un tipo . Cristo es nuestra Pascua, 1 Corintios v, 7. Cristo es el Cordero de Dios, Juan i, 29; a menudo, se le llama Cordero en Apocalipsis. Tenía que ser de calidad óptima; Cristo se ofreció en lo mejor de su edad, no cuando era el bebé de Belén. Tenía que carecer de todo defecto; el Señor Jesús fue un Cordero sin mancha: El juez que condenó a Cristo lo declaró inocente. Tenía que ser puesto aparte cuatro días antes, denotando esto la designación del Señor Jesús para ser Salvador, tanto en el propósito como en la promesa. Tenía que ser muerto y quemado con fuego, denotando esto los penosos sufrimientos del Señor Jesús, hasta la muerte y la muerte de cruz. La ira de Dios es como fuego y Cristo fue hecho maldición por nosotros. Ningún hueso suyo debía quebrarse, cosa que se cumplió en Cristo, Juan xix, 33, indicando esto la fortaleza no quebrantada del Señor Jesús.

El rociamiento de la sangre era un tipo. La sangre del cordero debía rociarse, indicando la aplicación de los méritos de la muerte de Cristo a nuestras almas; tenemos que recibir la expiación, Romanos v. 11. La fe es el hisopo con que se nos aplican las promesas y los beneficios de la sangre de Cristo. Tenía que rociarse en el dintel y los postes de la puerta, señalando la profesión directa de fe en Cristo que tenemos que hacer. No tenía que rociarse sobre el umbral, lo cual nos advierte para tener el cuidado de no pisotear la sangre del pacto. Es sangre preciosa y debe ser preciosa para nosotros. La sangre, así rociada, fue un medio para preservar a los israelitas del ángel destructor, que no tenía nada que hacer donde estuviera la sangre. La sangre de Cristo es la protección del creyente de la ira de Dios, de la maldición de la ley, y de la condenación del infierno, Romanos viii, 1. 3.
El comer solemnemente el cordero era un tipo de nuestro deber hacia Cristo en el evangelio. El cordero pascual no era sólo para contemplarlo, sino para comerlo. Así, por fe tenemos que apropiarnos de Cristo; y recibir fuerza y alimento espiritual de Él, como de nuestra comida; véase Juan vi, 53, 55. Era para ser comido
todo ; los que por fe se alimentan de Cristo, deben hacerlo de un Cristo total: debe tomar a Cristo y su yugo, a Cristo y su cruz, y asimismo a Cristo y su corona. Tenía que ser comido de una sola vez, de inmediato, sin dejar nada para la mañana. Hoy se ofrece a Cristo y debe ser recibido en tanto se dice hoy, antes que durmamos el sueño de la muerte. Tenía que ser comido con hierbas amargas, recordando la amargura de la esclavitud en Egipto; nosotros debemos alimentarnos de Cristo con dolor y con el corazón quebrantado, recordando el pecado. Cristo será dulce para nosotros si el pecado es amargo. Tenía que comerse de pie con el bordón en la mano, listos para partir. Cuando nos alimentamos de Cristo por fe, debemos abandonar el reinado y el dominio del pecado; liberarnos del mundo y de todo lo que en él hay; abandonarlo todo por Cristo y no considerarlo como mal negocio, Hebreos xiii, 13, 14.
La fiesta de los panes sin levadura era un tipo de la vida cristiana , 1 Corintios v, 7, 8. Habiendo recibido a Cristo Jesús el Señor debemos gozarnos continuamente en Cristo Jesús. Ninguna clase de obra debe hacerse, esto es, no admitir ni albergar afanes, que no concuerden con este santo gozo, o que lo rebajen. Los judíos eran muy estrictos en cuanto a que en la Pascua nada de levadura debía hallarse en sus casas. Debe ser una fiesta que se observa con caridad, sin la levadura de la malicia; y con sinceridad, sin la levadura de la hipocresía. Era una ordenanza perpetua: en la medida que vivamos debemos seguir alimentándonos de Cristo, regocijándonos en Él siempre, y mencionando con gratitud las grandes cosas que Él ha hecho por nosotros.
Vv. 21-28. Esa noche, cuando los primogénitos iban a ser destruidos, ningún israelita debía salir por las puertas hasta que fueran llamados a marcharse de Egipto. Su seguridad se debía a la sangre rociada. Si dejaban esa protección, lo hacían a su propio riesgo. Ellos debían permanecer adentro esperando la salvación de Jehová; es bueno hacerlo. En el tiempo venidero tenían que enseñar cuidadosamente a sus hijos el significado de este servicio. Es bueno que los niños pregunten acerca de las cosas de Dios; los que buscan el camino lo hallarán. Observar anualmente esta solemnidad era: -1.
Mirar atrás para recordar cuántas cosas grandes Dios había hecho por ellos y por sus padres. Las misericordias antiguas para con nosotros o para con nuestros padres no se deben olvidar para que Dios sea alabado y nuestra fe en Él sea fortalecida.
2. Tenía el propósito de
mirar adelante como prenda del gran sacrificio del Cordero de Dios en el cumplimiento del tiempo. Cristo, nuestra Pascua, fue sacrificado por nosotros; su muerte fue nuestra vida.
Vv. 29-36. Las tinieblas mantuvieron a los egipcios en ansiedad y horror durante tres días y con sus noches; ahora, su reposo lo interrumpe una calamidad mucho más terrible. La plaga atacó a sus primogénitos, el gozo y esperanza de sus familias. Ellos habían dado muerte a los hijos de los hebreos, ahora Dios mataba a los suyos. Abarcó desde el trono al calabozo: príncipe y campesino quedan al mismo nivel ante los juicios de Dios. El ángel destructor, como mensajero del dolor, entró a cada vivienda que no tenía la señal de la sangre. Realizó su diligencia espantosa sin dejar casa en que no hubiera un muerto. Imaginaos, entonces, el clamor que corrió por la tierra de Egipto, el largo y estridente aullido de agonía que estalló en cada vivienda. Así será en la hora espantosa en que el Hijo del hombre visite a los pecadores con el juicio final. Los hijos de Dios, sus primogénitos, se salvaron. Mejor es que los hombres se sometan primero a las condiciones de Dios, porque Él nunca seguirá las de ellos.
Ahora el orgullo de Faraón es abatido y se rinde. La palabra de Dios es la que permanece; nada sacamos con disputar o con la tardanza en someternos. El terror de los egipcios consiguió el favor y la rápida partida de Israel. Así, pues, el Señor cuidó que les fueran pagados los salarios duramente ganados y la gente les proveyó para el viaje.
Vv. 37-42. Los hijos de Israel se pusieron en marcha sin tardanza. Una multitud de toda clase de gente fue con ellos. Quizá algunos estuvieran dispuestos a dejar su patria, desolada por las plagas; otros, por curiosidad; quizá unos pocos por amor a ellos y su religión. Pero entre los israelitas siempre hubo quienes no eran israelitas. De la misma manera aún hay hipócritas en la iglesia.
Este gran acontecimiento sucedió a los 430 años de hacerse la promesa a Abraham: véase Gálatas iii, 17. Tanto tiempo había estado sin cumplirse la promesa de establecerlos en su tierra; pero, aunque las promesas de Dios no tengan rápido cumplimiento, se cumplirán en el momento más oportuno.
Esta es esa noche del Señor, la noche notable, digna de celebrarse en todas las generaciones. Las grandes cosas que Dios hace por su pueblo no son una maravilla sólo para unos cuantos días, sino para ser recordadas en todas las épocas, especialmente la obra de nuestra redención por Cristo. La primera noche de la Pascua fue una noche del Señor, digna de ser observada; pero la noche última de la Pascua, en que Cristo fue traicionado y en que se puso término a la primera Pascua, con las demás ceremonias judías, fue una noche del Señor, que debe ser celebrada mucho más. En dicha ocasión, fue quebrantado y quitado de nuestro cuello un yugo, más pesado que el de Egipto, y se nos puso por delante una tierra mejor que la de Canaán. Fue una redención digna de celebrarse en el cielo por toda la eternidad.
Vv. 43-51. En los tiempos venideros toda la congregación de Israel debía guardar la Pascua. Todos los que participan de las misericordias de Dios deben unirse en alabanzas de gratitud por ellas. La Pascua del Nuevo Testamento, la cena del Señor, no debe ser descuidada por nadie.
Los extranjeros, si eran circuncidados, podían comer la Pascua. He aquí una indicación temprana de favor hacia los gentiles. Esto enseñó a los judíos que lo que les daba derecho a sus privilegios era el ser una nación favorecida por Dios, no su descendencia de Abraham.
Cristo, nuestra Pascua, fue sacrificada por nosotros, 1 Corintios v, 7. su sangre es el único rescate por nuestras almas; sin el derramamiento de sangre no hay remisión; sin derramamiento de sangre no se hace remisión. Por fe en Él, ¿hemos refugiado nuestras almas de la merecida venganza, poniéndolas bajo la protección de su sangre expiatoria? ¿Nos mantenemos cerca de Él, descansando constantemente en Él? ¿Profesamos nuestra fe en el Redentor y nuestras obligaciones para con Él, de modo que todos los que pasan por nuestro lado sepan a quien pertenecemos? ¿Estamos preparados para su servicio, dispuestos a andar en sus caminos y a separarnos de sus enemigos? Estas son preguntas de enorme importancia para el alma; que el Señor dirija nuestras conciencias para contestarlas con honestidad.
